Max's POV
"And… OPEN!" Matt said, and I finally got the chance to see where the boys had taken me. At first, I was delusioned. I couldn't even tell where we were. I saw grass, trees, a path, a shed.
Not just a shed, THE shed. The shed on my parent's property in the countryside near our hometown.
"Guys, why did you bring me here?" I asked, turning around to face them. Josh was standing there, almost as if he were in shock of where we were as well. He would be. He was here for the bad things. Dan and Chris were looking from me, to the shed, to Josh, and back to me, as if they were trying opt figure out what had us both so upset. Matt, well he was smiling. But he didn't know the half of it.
"I told you, this was a bad idea, Matt, now can we go?" Josh asked, a strain in his voice. Dan and Chris both turned to face him, clueless looks spreading across their faces.
"No, come on! Let's go exploring!" Matt bubbled, running up the path. Dan and Chris followed, occasionally looking back on Josh and I.
"What do you want to do, Max?" Josh asked me. I looked up at the three boys, and they were opening the door to the shed. I sighed, looking back at Josh. He was about to cry.
"We gotta tell them, unfortunately.  They need to know everything. They need to know why the hell we don't want to be here." I said, beginning to walk up the path. Josh followed, his hands in his pockets, looking down at the ground. I looked back up at the shed. The boys were nowhere in sight. The sun hit my eyes, and I squinted to keep some of my vision. As we drew closer, I saw Josh shaking.
"I don't wanna do this, Hedgehog." he whispered, still looking at the ground.
"Me either, J-Monster." I said, reaching for the door. I swung it open, and closed my eyes.
"Ready?" Josh asked.
"Yeah, are you?" I answered, and I felt air flick my cheek. I knew Josh was shaking his head.
"One." he said, and I took a sharp breath in.
"Two." I said, and I heard him whimper
"Three" we both said, and flicked open our eyes. It was all there. Everything was exactly how we left it. The shelf of motorbike gear, the fishing poles, the old beaten down Suzuki we used as a paddock basher. The broken bottles, the bag… Alex's jacket.
"Is this Alex's jacket?" Dan asked, his face falling slightly as I nodded.
"Max, this place is great! What made you hide it from us?!" Matt asked, and I finally gave up.
"Dan, Chris, Matt, sit down. Josh and I have to tell you a story."  I mumbled. They sat down around the table we had set up, a deck of cards strewn all over it.
"You remember the night that we had Max's 17th, and we got all the booze in?" Josh started. Dan nodded.
"I missed that one, Mum was all like 'not a chance, boy!' and all that jazz" Matt grumbled.
"Me too, Grammy was sick." Dan added
"I don't think I was there either, to be honest." Chris chided in
"Well you're lucky you didn't go, Matt. All three of you are. So it went the way almost all parties go. You drink, silly shit goes down. Well, that's when I met Olivia. Everyone called her Oli, though. Said she had a penchant for making boys "scream" if you catch my drift. Out of everyone that night, she chose me. She wanted to do something stupid, reckless and fun-"
"-so naturally, I said 'do me' and got a slap in the face. But come on! You guys all know I'm Mr Reckless." Josh added. Dan quickly high fived him, but reluctantly, and returned his attention to me.
"anyways, she wanted to do something stupid. Because we were all the way out here, we could make all the noise we wanted. It wasn't until Sean fell over one of the bikes that our stupid reckless plan came to light. I remember her tugging on my sleeve, begging me…"

FLASHBACK:
"Come on, Maxie! They're obviously there for a reason!" she whined, walking over to one of them.
"Fine! But at least wear a helmet. We'll find somewhere to go hang out alone for a while." said, winking at her. She slipped a helmet on, found her jacket, and stood the bike Sean knocked over back on its wheels. I followed suit, grabbing my own bike. She flicked herself onto the bike, kicking it over like she had been riding for years. She took off out the open door of the shed, and I quickly followed, switching one of the headlights on. It wasn't long before we found a creek. It was summer, and that mean the night was a little balmy. The moon was out, and everything seemed perfect…

END FLASHBACK
"And let me guess, it wasn't" Chris asked. Josh grimaced.
"Mate, nothing that happens from here on in is perfect." he sighed.
"anyways, we pulled up, and got comfy and talked for a bit, and you know, fucked." I said.
'Wait, you actually did her?! We all thought you lied! SCORE ONE FOR HEDGIE!" Josh said, offering me a high five. I glared at him, and he sat back down.
"We rode back, only to find everything had gone silent. We walked through the door to find everyone huddled.  We asked what was going on, but only Josh seemed to be able to answer us."
"Yeah. What happened while they had gone… you remember the exchange kid, Alex? You know how they said he died of a heart attack… we kind of bribed them to say that. He actually died from overdosing… at Max's party."
"What?! No way!" Dan stuttered. Dan had been a good friend of Alex's while he had been in the U.K.
"Dan, I'm sorry we didn't tell you." I sighed, "we should have told you earlier, and I'm sorry. We needed to keep it a secret though. Everyone at the party did."
"Ok, well… You see, Oli left her bag. She'd brought drugs along to, you know, get the party started. Alex and this other kid, Jared, found them. They began to give them out, but no-one wanted them. To prove a point, saying it was harmless, Alex took two pills. He was fine, but then  he started acting… strange. Jared, who was a good friend of his by then, mentioned briefly that he was on anti-depression pills, so we thought it was just a bit of a reaction to those. Then he began to cry. He spewed a heap of shit about how he hated everyone, and how he never should have lived. Sean went to try and comfort him, but Alex punched him in the nose. Everything was going really badly. Having actually not drank anything. I began to think of ways to calm him down. I had a plan almost thought out, until he began to go towards the fishing poles. He was screaming about how he needed to feel pain. I bolted over there, and ripped the hooks off the rods. That's how I got these." he quickly stopped, showing us the scars on his hands, "I shoved them in my pockets. He didn't notice or care about anyone around him anymore, he just wanted to end everything. I began to eliminate all ways the he could cause himself pain. I moved all the bottles, I hid the knives and forks in the glove box in the Zuki. I did everything I possibly could to help him… except hide the drugs. They'd been left behind in this struggle. I'd forgotten they were there, but he hadn't. He ran over to the bag, and took the whole thing. Ate them all. He began to cry again, because taking them hadn't caused him any pain. He began to punch himself. He was going insane. Then, after a few minutes, his face began to contort. He was shaking, foaming at the mouth. Everyone crowded around him, but no-one knew what to do! We couldn't ring an ambulance, they would see the booze, and Alex's drug induced freakout, and call the cops. There was nothing we could do but watch him die in front of us.
"That's when Oli and I came back in." I tacked onto the end.
"So you don't want to be out here because you watched someone die, and couldn't do shit to save him?" Matt asked, and Josh and I  nodded
"Its not just someone, Matt, that's fucking Alex you're talking about!" Dan yelled, standing up.
"Dan, we told you, we're sorry!" I said, hoping to calm him down.
"No you fucking aren't. You let ALL these years go by and didn't tell me what happened to my best friend!" he screamed, storming towards the door.
"Dan, wait!" Josh said, following him out of the shed, grabbing Alex's as he ran past. I looked at Matt and Chris. They both had bewildered looks on their faces.

Josh's POV
"Dan! Slow up!" I yelled, and he spun around to face me. He was seething.
"No, Josh, don't come near me! I hate you!" he exclaimed, "you didn't tell me what happened to my best friend in the whole fucking wide world!" he plopped down onto the ground his head in his hands.
"Dan, I said I was sorry." I whispered, sitting down next to him. He rested his head on my shoulder, and I smiled. Why did that feel so good?
"You didn't know the whole story of Alex and I. He was more than just my best friend… Josh, what I'm about to say may ruin our whole friendship. I'm gay, Josh. Have been for years. Ever notice how the girls we hang out with seem so much comfortable around me then they do around you guys? Yeah, well anyways, Alex was my boyfriend. I knew he was on anti-depressants. It was because of things that happened back home. I told him not to go. I said he should have come met my Grammy. He didn't listen to me. I got told the next day the anti-depressants fucked with his heart and gave him a heart attack. Now, finding out it happened at my best friends party… it feels like I'm losing him again." he shuddered, turning his face into my shoulder. I rubbed up and down his back.
"Dan, you never lost him. Not fully. Look, have his jacket. You'll always have a piece of him." I said, passing him the jacket.
"Thank you." he half smiled. His eyes were red from crying, "you hate me now, don't you?" he said. I felt a jolt in my stomach. No, I didn't hate him.
I loved him.
"I don't hate you Dan. I never could. But… I can't consider you my best friend anymore." I said, taking in a deep breath. Dan's eyes widened, filling with tears. What had I done!?
"I..I..I.. see." he said smally, and began to walk away.
"Dan, that's not what I meant, wait!" I shouted. He kept walking.
"Don't fucking lie to me, Franceschi! You don't want anything to do with me anymore!" he screamed back at me.
Oh shit, what have I done?!
"Dan, we can't be friends, it would get too complicated!" I said, trying to catch him. I guess there is a reason he ran with the Olympic torch and not me.
"HOW?!" he raged, turning around to face me. He was crying again.
"How can you not see this, Dan?! How can I be best friends with someone I'm going to be fucking on an almost daily basis?" I quipped. His face contorted, in confusion.
"What?" he asked. I walked over to him, and grabbed his hand. His eyes widened again as he realised.
"I'm… I am too, and I like you. Have for years. Never had the guts to say anything. Guess today… I did. Maybe because we finally got that story off our chests or some crap. All I know now, is I'm glad you know." I said.
"Oh, Josh!" he smiled, and hugged me. The jolt came back to my stomach, and I realised what I was doing right now. I was healing Dan's heart.

Max's POV
I looked out the window, and saw Josh and Dan holding each other tightly. I knew that they had started dating.
"Hey boys, come look at this." I motioned for Chris and Matt to come look. Chris audibly squeed and the thought, and Matt giggled.
It looked perfect.
Aww, I found this on my computer and thought I'd finish it off and upload it :)
